Frequently Asked Questions

1. I have never done reformer Pilates before, can I still join?

Absolutely! (no pun intended). Our beginners classes are the perfect introduction to reformer pilates, where you will master all of the basics under the careful instruction of an expert trainer.

If you are unsure about joining a group class for the first time, then a great way to start your pilates journey can be with a one-to-one session with one of our friendly and knowledgeable instructors.

2. What do I wear and what should I bring to a class?

Anything that you're comfortable exercising in! Socks are compulsory. We recommend Pilates grip socks, however we will provide grip mats if you opt to wear normal socks.

Typically, women tend to find leggings (or shorts) and sports top suitable, and men the same.

There is storage for your personal items in the studio itself. We have a water dispenser with disposable cups, but you are of-course welcome to bring a water bottle as well as any other essential items you need.

3. I am new to your studio - how do I book a class?

First, you need to sign-up with an Absolute Studios account through Momence, we have an intro offer of 3 for £30 which is the perfect way to ease you into the studio. For Parsons Green click here, for Kensal Rise click here and for Queen’s Park click here. This will automatically create an account for you and add the offer to your account. You will then easily be able to book in to your desired studio. If you're having problems with this, drop us an email and somebody will be in touch ASAP to help you.

4. How long is a reformer Pilates group class?

All of our classes (beginner, intermediate and mobility) are 50 minutes long.

Yes, they can! We highly recommend our Pregnancy Modifications Private session. This is a 50 minute session where we will introduce you to modifications to the exercises taught in class so you feel comfortable and safe in a studio class environment or you may wish to continue with the Private sessions.

If you're pregnant and looking to take part in a studio class, please get in touch first so one of our instructors can advise you on which class is most suitable for your stage of pregnancy.

Joseph Pilates, initially developed his exercise system (Pilates) to help World War 2 veterans with their physical rehabilitation following injury. So, in short - yes!

With many different supine, prone and side-lying methods of engaging your muscles, Pilates can be adapted to work around any injury to gradually rehabilitate the affected area back to its optimal function.

Pilates can also help to strengthen the muscles and ligaments around the joints, making them more resilient and injury proof.

10. What is a Pilates reformer machine?

A Pilates reformer is a piece of apparatus that enables exercisers to engage their muscles in line with the natural movement patterns of the body.

The reformer makes this possible from a number of different positions and angles, making it suitable for people of all ages and abilities.
